Southern Site's Story | Heavy Civil Contractors | TN & AL

Who We Are

Our Work Starts With a Higher Purpose.

Sure, getting a paycheck every week is great, but our work adds up to a lot more than only money in our pockets.

Our Mission

We lay the groundwork for our team members, partners, and community to build better lives.

Our Story

The Southern Site story began when Ryan Clinard identified a significant opportunity in the development market while working for a home builder. He saw room for a professional site contractor that was extremely capable, treated people well, and was transparent about their business.

Ryan approached his managers at the homebuilder, who Clayton Homes (a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway) recently purchased, and told them he desired to start a site development business to support their homebuilding efforts.

While one may think there’s a dark side to being under a big corporate umbrella, it’s the opposite with Clayton. Since they’ve built their business around trusting talented people to run with minimal oversight, starting Southern Site with Clayton support was the perfect marriage.

Southern Site was officially born in February of 2017 from nothing. The original plan was to find a small team and develop 25 lots in the first year. Thanks to demand, that went out the window fast, and the newly formed Southern Site team completed 75 lots with another 100 under development by day 365.

The growth hasn’t slowed since then, either. With a team in the hundreds comprised of both industry veterans and young but eager to learn talent, Southern Site’s created a site work and erosion control presence in Nashville, Knoxville, and Huntsville.

When it comes to competitive advantage, most would think it’s down to Southern Site’s immaculate fleet of iron, latest technology, and the ability to deliver on large projects, but that’s not truly what sets us apart.

Our advantage lies in investing in our people and treating them the way we want to be treated. It’s that simple. We give everyone our trust and allow them to be a part of building a company from the ground up. We share everything from field to office, including the good and the bad. If there’s a problem, we invite everyone to help solve it, and if there’s a success, we want everyone to share in it.
